Overview

Jaic Wain is a free open source IRC (Internet Relay Chat) client with a focus on usability. It runs on all platforms supporting Java 1.5, including MacOS, Linux and Windows.

Welcome to the Jaic Wain website. Jaic Wain is an effort to create an easy-to-use IRC client that enables you to chat on one of the numerous IRC networks.

Don't know what IRC is? IRC is one of those fancy internet technologies that enable you to communicate in near-realtime with text. Imagine an IM (Instant Messenger) network that is older, far more powerful, not controlled by any one company, and geared towards enabling large group conversations instead of just one-to-one conversations. Quite addictive. You're almost certain to find a place to talk about your favorite topic, be it dogs, computers or funeral speeches.

Jaic Wain is by no means feature-complete. But since it is open source software, (licensed under the terms of the GNU GPL license), you can help develop it, if you like.

Version 0.2.1 Released

Date: July 17, 2006
After almost three-and-a-half years, I've finally put together a new release. There's quite a lot on my to-do-list for the next version. To implement all that would only have delayed the release further, so here you have it: version 0.2.1. Go grab it while it's still fresh!

New Website

Date: July 01, 2006
I have finally sacrificed some of my spare time to give the website a new look. The old one has become a little.. well, old. So, here it is, the new website in its full glory. Spread the word!

As for Jaic Wain, the current development version already has a bunch of changes compared to the current version, 0.2. It's not likely that it will be released anytime soon, though. There's another bunch of features that want to be implemented first. The good news is, the development version is quite stable, so feel free to check it out.
